What Is a Community of Care?
I would define a community of care as "an organizational ethos and practice that prioritizes the well-being of its members." It’s a space where employees feel valued not just for their output as human doers, but as human beings.
In a community of care, collaboration and empathy are key, and the focus shifts from individual competition to collective conscience and success.
This doesn’t mean sacrificing performance for care - on the contrary, businesses and non profits that foster communities of care often see improvements in productivity, creativity, and innovation. Why? Because when people feel cared for, they are more motivated, more engaged, and more likely to bring their full selves to work.
For C-suite leaders, fostering authentic communities of care is not just a moral imperative - it’s a strategic advantage.
